Driver Education 2026 - Fall B (Oct-Nov)Drivers EducationWhen registering, complete students profile with their legal name as it appears on their Birth Certificate and confirm your child's birth date is accurate. You will also be asked to include the best email address you want the State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) to send the Classroom Certificate Completion and the Behind the Wheel Certificate of Completion. Registration for Fall B class ends Monday, October 12 or when the class is full.The package fee includes 30 hours of in-person quality classroom instruction with a BHM teacher, ALL classroom materials and supplies and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a licensed teacher you can trust. The classroom portion of the fee, $135, is non-refundable. Please check for schedule conflicts prior to registration. It is recommended students are age 15 by the last day of classroom instruction, or shortly thereafter, as this is the age the student needs to be to take the Written Knowledge Test. 30-hours of classroom instruction must be completed for the student to be issued the Classroom Certificate of Completion. Make-Up Session: One make-up session is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 3:40-6:40 pm at Buffalo High School with Mr. Gunderson if needed. Tardies and/or absence from one class need to be made-up. Students needing more than 3-hours of make-up time will need to retake classroom instruction and pay the $135 classroom fee. Note: Driver’s Education is not funded by the State of Minnesota, therefore, all costs must be incurred by the family upon registering. Don't wait until the deadline to register... classes fill quickly so early registration is encouraged. The fee includes 30 hours of in-person quality classroom instruction with a BHM teacher, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction with a licensed teacher AND all classroom supplies and materials. The classroom portion of the fee is non-refundable. BTW instruction is offered year-round and is typically scheduled one-hour each month for six months, which allows time in-between for parent/guardian practice driving with the student. Once you have your permit, do not wait to schedule your first BTW instruction. Driver’s Education is not funded by the State of Minnesota. Your appointment will include a quick and simple check in the areas of vision, hearing, speech, motor skills and thinking skills, as well general health and growth. Parents follow their child through the process and have the opportunity to discuss their child's development with the screeners. This is a free service to all Minnesota residents.
